The K-9 Division of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department consists of five sworn Deputy Sheriff's and their respective animals.  The K-9 division must maintain constant daily training records and are required an annual re-certification.  Sgt. M.A. Fridley handles a Belguim Malinois named Niko who is seven years old.  Niko is a multi-purpose working dog and is certified in Narcotics Detection, Tracking and Apprehension.  Cpl. T.N. Mooney handles a Belguim Malinois named Riko.  Riko is a dual purpose working dog and is certified in Explosives Detection and Tracking.  D/S W.R. Callison handles a Black Labrador Retriever named Boss.  Boss is trained as dual purpose in narcotics and tracking.  Cpl. S.R. Morris handles a Belguim Malinois named Herk who is a dual purpose working dog trained in Narcotics Detection, Tracking and Apprehension.  D/S W.K. Willis handles a Blood Hound named Wilbur.  Wilbur is exclusively trained in human tracking.  All 5 units are avaliable to all regional law enforcement agencies for their services.   The officers as well as their respective K-9s require constant training and annual certification through various accredited schools.
